This month's Technique of the Month is 'Brayered Sky'. Thanks to Ange
for raving about it SO much, and for Trina for actually making me sit
down and do it (we sat down and played today to make the card - you
should see hers!). Most importantly, this technique was created by Michelle Zindorf
- YAY Michelle for such a great, inspiring technique!! I'm posting a
Challenge of the Month this month, so if you post a link to your
project using this technique (submit a comment below, linking to your
post), I will pick the coolest entry and send you some blog candy for
your effort! (including a full-sized version of my sample card). Good
luck!
Ok - here's what you need:
- Brayer
- Several colours of coordinating ink, in darkening shades (from light to dark)
- One Post-It Note
- 1-3/4" Circle Punch (New Catty Baby!) :) (or Colluzzle)
- Black Stampin' Write Marker
- Sponges
- Inspired By Nature Stampset (new catty)
- CRAFT black ink
- Ripped piece of scrap paper (for horizon)
COLOURS I USED:
- Summer Sun (had to!)
- Really Rust
- Ruby Red
- Bravo Burgandy
- Craft Basic Black
- Cardstock: Whisper White (doesn't it do a great job with this technique?!), Summer Sun, Bravo Burgandy.
Ready? Here we go!
STEP
1: Using either the NEW 1-3/4" Circle punch, or your Colluzzle, punch
out a circle from a piece of sticky note. Be sure you are punching the
'sticky part' of the note!
STEP 2: Stick Sticky Note onto paper where you want the sun to be..
STEP 3: Brayer lightest colour over cardstock, as far down as you want
your horizon to be (roughly). Use lots of different directions as you
brayer, so you don't get rigid lines (although, I have done this
technique with straight lines on purpose, to get a specific cloud
effect..)
STEP 4: Brayer second colour (free hand) over first colour, leaving
some of the 1st colour on the very bottom of the image. Start at the
top of the paper as you brayer, so the majority of the ink is at the
top of the image. Again, lots of directions of your brayering will
help make it look softer. Sponge any areas which are have too many
lines when you are finished, to get a softer image.
STEP 5: Using a torn piece of paper as a mask, brayer the 'ground
colour' on the bottom of the card. Lots of directions of your strokes
remember! Remove mask and using a sponge, soften the transition
between the sky and the 'ground' if you need to.
STEP 6: Oops - this picture is warped.. not sure why, but whatever!
:) I used a sponge in the ground colour (in my case, Bravo Burgandy) to
shade in the edges, and then used the sponge to swipe across the sun in
straight lines. I then used the lighter 'Summer Sun' shade to swipe
across that sun again, to bring out some of the sunny colours.
STEP
7: Using CRAFT black ink, stamp your foreground image on top of
horizon. I used Craft because it is thicker, and since I was stamping
on so many layers of ink, I wanted it to really cover it well (needed a
very bold image). Be careful afterwards though - it needs a while to
dry so DON'T TOUCH IT (or heat set it with your heat tool)
I used a black stampin' write journaler to add little birds..
Ok, let your submissions begin!
